Honda, GM, and BMW Create a Consortium to Standardize Hydrogen Vehicle Technology
A recent press release by the Honda Motor Corporation denies that it will develop hydrogen vehicles with BMW AG and the General Motors Corp. this is the result of a misinterpretation of the agreement that these major auto manufacturers will standardize hydrogen powered vehicle components for fueling. That way fueling station technology may provide an infrastructure that provides service to the widest range of vehicles possible.

“Honda Motor is joining in a consortium aimed at developing and standardizing filling systems for liquid hydrogen (both nozzle and tank cap),” Honda public relation department general manager Hiroshi Ohshima said in a written statement.

“But this consortium is not aimed at developing a fuel-cell vehicle itself,” he stressed.

The comments came after the Yomiuri Shimbun reported earlier that the three auto firms are collaborating to develop standardized fuel-cell technologies in a bid to commercialize fuel cell vehicles worldwide.

The report also said the three firms are hoping by collaborating they can reduce development costs for fuel cell technologies and they also plan to standardize fuel nozzles and other parts related to a hydrogen supply system.
